Reaction to a reaction--more spoilers

"If I had been Martha's mother then when the Doctor said "you are better than him", I would have replied "I know that you patronising tosser" and then emptied the clip into the Master," says someone on my flist, "although I might have saved one to blow off one of the Doctor's kneecaps for being such a prat."

This would, of course, render the statement false.

I know it's cool to be impressed by people who shoot first, kick other people into engines, and so on, but I like to think that not killing is actually better and should be the preferred option in all cases where options exist. I suppose this is mainly because I would be completely unimpressed if someone killed me. Or kneecapped me, for that matter. If being a prat were a kneecapping offence there would be a lot more places with disabled access in the world.

I'm sure there are those who would prefer that the Doctor carried a Very Big Gun and blew away all his enemies on sight. Daleks--BAM. Cybermen--POW. Family of Blood--RATATATATATATAT. Master--KABLAMM. Eat leaden death, entire universe. Because that would be like wicked cool, man.

I rather disagree. And I'm disabling comments on this as well (it's actually kind of addictive: you always get the last word) because I simply don't want to discuss this issue.
