Homage to Jim (or possibly jimage to Hom)

Woke up this morning and I looked in the mirror
And I saw that all my hair was grey
Put on the radio and turned it off again
'Cause I don't understand the music they play
Went down to breakfast, read the paper, went to work
I gotta plan for my future sometime
But now my teenage daughter thinks I'm a jerk
When did living one more day become a crime?

I used to hope that I'd die before I got old
I wanted speed and excitement and love over gold
But the promise got broken and the dreams all were sold
And there was nothing but to leave the stage
And now I'm still standing but the world has moved on
I'm still standing though my waistline has gone
The fire's still burning and the feeling is strong
And I'm torn between the love and the rage
And there's a time to remember what it means to be young
And a time to start acting your age.

...and it occurs to me that (a) this is depressing and I didn't mean it to be, (b) someone must already have done it if it's worth doing, (c) I've run out of inspiration and it's turning into hackwork. Anyone want to pick it up, or shall we just leave it lying there?

EDIT: for homage to another Jim, more appropriately dated, see [livejournal.com profile] filkertom's post here.

(no subject)

As a result of getting a Dreamwidth account, which I've still not used and am not sure if I ever will, I have two count them two invitation codes, if anyone would like them. Comment here and I will send. EDIT: now both taken.

The account name is avevale_intelligencer, and if I do post to it it will probably be stuff appropriate to that name, but that bit of me is busy on the two Lulu projects at the moment.

In that connection, if anyone knows a good and reasonably accessible source of information on San Francisco in 1911-12, Angel Island, the Chinese slave girl case or related matters (I have plumbed the depths of Google already and still feel woefully underqualified to write even a slight and ephemeral short story about it) I'd be grateful.

Sometimes Google is really irritating

Apropos of a comment I just made to SFX, does anyone else of my advanced and enfeebled age remember a British comic story entitled "The Juggernaut," featuring a gigantic alien robot somewhat along the lines of Gort only bigger, that crashed into the sea and then proceeded to invade Britain (where else, after all?)

As far as I'm aware this predated Cain frodding Marko, but guess who's the only Juggernaut I can find any mention of on the net? I'm quite convinced I didn't dream it...possibly the same sort of vintage as "The Missing Link" and "Iron Man" (no, not that one...)

Aide memoire

Once To Every Man And Nation, as referenced in a comment to an earlier post.

Well, it is Sunday.

Yes, I can definitely hear a better arrangement of that tune. This one is far too jolly and upbeat...
