More from my head...

The latest crop of adverts for a certain directory enquiries agency reminded me of my discovery, a few years ago (cruelly ignored by a literary establishment irretrievably mired in nepotism and internecine rivalries) of that select group of journeyman scribes who were employed, on a piecework basis, by timid writers of Victorian and Edwardian erotica (most of whom were single, since clearly no respectable married person would engage in such a trade) to provide enhanced descriptive passages relating to certain characteristics of the female form divine. As their discreet advertisements in the specialist periodicals used rhetorically to inquire: "With whom would it be to your advantage to initiate an immediate telephonic correspondence?"

EDIT:

This is the advert I'm talking about, if that helps...

FURTHER EDIT: oh all right. The answer is behind here. )
