Calling Microsoft Word experts

The Countess is irritated because when she tries to get the drawing grid up in Word, Word encounters a problem and has to close. I have pointed out that Word is not an ideal drawing tool and it might be easier to do her drawing in another programme and insert it, but she wants to know why it's happening, because she was able to do it at work. I believe she's running Word 2003 on a 1.25GHz system with one gig of RAM, if that helps.
