Die Graefin bedauert
Sep. 25th, 2007 06:08 pmOn Sunday we had a phone call from
valydiarosada asking if we were definitely going to FilkContinental, and I said yes. Then I found out it was actually this coming weekend and not a week and a bit away as we had been thinking.
We have thought hard about this, and decided that we can't do it, for several reasons:
1. The Countess is less mobile than she has ever been, and although she very much wants to be there, does not feel she can handle the travelling.
2. I have been musically inert for over a year now, have no new songs or ideas for songs, and because of my own health problems am not sure whether I can cope with being with people, even loved ones, in large numbers for any length of time. I also very much want to be there, but there would be little point if I spent the whole time stuck in my room.
3. While I confidently told Jan I could handle packing and organising for both of us in the three days remaining (now one and a bit), I now think this was probably an overstatement, and we do not want to be keeping Valerie and David up till gone midnight on Thursday as happened last time because we couldn't get ourselves sorted out.
So this is us, bottling out again.
aunty_marion has the Countess' Awards, and if I can get the certificates done and emailed either to her or (if my monitor fails to return before Thursday) to someone at the con with pronting facilities (if there is any such person there) the Awards can go ahead as planned. If that isn't possible the certificates will happen later. I'll be emailing Kirstin and phoning Marion and Valerie to tender apologies properly to them, but this is a heartfelt apology to all those on my flist who were hoping to see us there, as we were hoping to see them. You couldn't be more disappointed than we are.
