(no subject)

So I go and glaum in HMV sometimes at lunchtime, and they have this whole rack at the back for what they call "metal," and I see a lot of album covers that make me think "hmm, that looks interesting, I wonder what it's like?" and once or twice I find one on the nearby listening posts, and listen for just long enough to determine that they have one lead singer and he makes Johnny Rotten sound like Aled Jones, and I go away.

And this time I found an album by an outfit called "Nightwish," and I give a listen.

Oh. My. God.

It's all here. Full orchestra, pounding rock drums and guitars, melodies and harmonies and all that stuff, diversity of texture and tempo, lyrics I like, and a lead vocalist who can actually sing. Pompous, over-produced, self-indulgent prog-rock lives. And scanning the shelves, they've got a bunch of albums out already. I think I'm in love.

[livejournal.com profile] the_magician, have you heard these people?

Nightwish ROCK. Utterly. :)

Oooh. Two people whose musical tastes I respect... I should look out for this. Anyone care to send me an MP3 as a sample before I buy an entire album?

Seeing how I discovered both Loreena McKennit and Evanescence on Zander's recommendations, I take this seriously...

I have some MP3's ... :)

Gimme gimme! Email a link or summat. Pretty please. [FLUTTERS EYELIDS] =:o}

Hee :) Nightwish rock. Quite literally, in fact. Stealthgoth is very fond of them (to put it very mildly), too...

Fire up that 'pooter! Send me that MP3! (And put on your voice-getting-well-exercises, too.)

Ooo. Interested.

And once again Zander sails round the world to discover Brighton beach... :) I should have known. It's nice to have one's tastes confirmed, though.

I thought I'd heard someone else enthusing about them...

Yes

I have just about everything they've done ... I thought I'd passed on some of their stuff to you at one point? Along with the Muse stuff ... or maybe not?

No, not yet. Evanescence and Muse, but not Nightwish.

And they're Finnish as well...the legacy of Sibelius lives ON! (Though what he'd think of it I hesitate to imagine...)

I find Nightwish a bit variable. Some of their stuff is just great and some of it is just noise. But Albert's been introducing me to it and I have some on my Ipod and once I finally give it all a proper listen through I'll go out and buy me a CD (once I work out which of them has the highest 'music to noise' ratio...)

I checked through eight out of about a dozen tracks on "Once" and they were all music as far as I could tell. That one's eleven quid delivered from play.com, which is about the cheapest I've seen, if that helps.
