(no subject)

So I go and glaum in HMV sometimes at lunchtime, and they have this whole rack at the back for what they call "metal," and I see a lot of album covers that make me think "hmm, that looks interesting, I wonder what it's like?" and once or twice I find one on the nearby listening posts, and listen for just long enough to determine that they have one lead singer and he makes Johnny Rotten sound like Aled Jones, and I go away.

And this time I found an album by an outfit called "Nightwish," and I give a listen.

Oh. My. God.

It's all here. Full orchestra, pounding rock drums and guitars, melodies and harmonies and all that stuff, diversity of texture and tempo, lyrics I like, and a lead vocalist who can actually sing. Pompous, over-produced, self-indulgent prog-rock lives. And scanning the shelves, they've got a bunch of albums out already. I think I'm in love.

[livejournal.com profile] the_magician, have you heard these people?

Nightwish ROCK. Utterly. :)

Hee :) Nightwish rock. Quite literally, in fact. Stealthgoth is very fond of them (to put it very mildly), too...

I have just about everything they've done ... I thought I'd passed on some of their stuff to you at one point? Along with the Muse stuff ... or maybe not?

I find Nightwish a bit variable. Some of their stuff is just great and some of it is just noise. But Albert's been introducing me to it and I have some on my Ipod and once I finally give it all a proper listen through I'll go out and buy me a CD (once I work out which of them has the highest 'music to noise' ratio...)
