Yes, it probably does, and I get that. The reason that falls short for me is that the way I see it, "meaning" only happens when there is communication of some sort. What I think of as "meaning" may mean nothing to anybody else, or may be actively hateful to them, cf. Jack the Ripper, and others. Meaning must be shared, either with other people, or with the universe at large. Religion offers a shared sense of meaning and purpose, whether people outside that religion agree with it or not; science says coldly that there is none, and you have to find your own or do without. Just "being excellent to each other" isn't any kind of "meaning of life" to me; it's the basic requirement, and I know I fall short of that more often than not...but perhaps having something beyond that to aim for makes reaching and maintaining that basic level easier for some people. Maybe it would even for me.

This is rambling, and off the point of the post, but maybe there's a grain of sense in it.
