Avevale is a small village in the West Country of England. Set in a natural bowl-like valley, surrounded by tree-clad hills on all sides, Avevale is blessed with superbly fertile soil and good irrigation. The name derives from the River Ave (not a corruption of Avon), which begins on the side of Camber's Hill and flows through the village to disappear into an underground culvert on the other side.
The village boasts one pub (the Man At Arms, selling Avevale Ales), one church (the church of Without Saint Paul, on the hill just outside) and no supermarkets. By a peculiar chance, the valley itself falls between local authorities, and Avevale has cheerfully governed itself for three hundred years. Avevale College is well known as a fully self-funded (non-fee-paying) educational establishment.
